"Sinkholes" by Shruthi Jaishankar

Mother Teresa once said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create ripples.” We really have stumbled onto difficult times! From physical problems such as murderous locust swarms and viral pandemics to ethical ones, like violent and controversial protests. The strains of these major issues threaten to tear at the intricate fabric that is our society. It’s safe to say we would all like to cancel our six-month trial of what is the cataclysmic year of 2020! These devastating events are taking a toll on us, and more importantly our foundation. The cracks in the ground give in, resulting in a sinkhole. Still, times like this pass, and we are given opportunities to do what must be done to make the world a better place. To impact the lives around us in a positive manner, we can help by being a mentor, volunteering, and using our voice. Making a difference is essential to a society in such a delicate position, allowing necessary change to occur. The role we play determines whether the outcome is beneficial or not, while no contribution to our community can plunge us into the depths of mediocrity.

Make a difference by joining Quaranteen Pals! Seniors are an essential part of our community, let’s help them combat isolation, don’t lie, maybe you’ve been feeling it too! During these difficult times, now is your chance to be a beacon of hope for others. Be a penpal to a senior, interact with them. Not only is this fun, but it’s also beneficial for our community! I feel grateful to be part of such an organization that can brighten someone’s day!
